I have always struggled with my body image ever since I was a young girl which led my unconscious mind to believe I had to dress a certain way to try to hide my curves. Many people at a school I used to attend used to say that only skinny people could wear shorts and bikinis which is clearly a ludicrous statement but it did damage my body image further. So every time summer and holidays came around I became anxious to find the correct pair of shorts to hide my thighs which I have always thought were very large.

I think it is important to find the correct pair of shorts for your body type. In year 7 and year 8 I used to think the only nice pair of shorts you could get were from shops which were targeted at skinny people because lots of the more popular people in my year were extremely skinny and so they suited them. The shorts at these types of shops never suited me, they made my thighs look very exaggerated due to their tight fit which made me feel more body conscious. If you want to shop at Hollister it is up to you but just know that there are a plethora of shops which stock shorts which suit more body types. I assure you there will be a style to compliment your figure no matter what figure you have, you just have to find the stolen

I just want to say that although it can be difficult if you have body image problems and you think people will be staring at you for dressing in a certain way, they usually are not because quite honestly people are usually concerned with themselves or their own personal struggles than judging you! I recently walked around a beautiful Italian city called Lucca in shorts and a striped top and I didn’t think about people looking at me anymore which is a huge positive step for me personally as a person who used to be so worried about other peopleโ€™s opinions of me only around 5 years ago. This shows how body confidence takes time, I was wearing a pair of shorts with pretend eyelashes on them and slight rips around the top of the thighs. This type of shorts make me feel a lot more comfortable due to their style; it’s all about trying to find the best style for you!

Here is a photo of me wearing said shorts from a day in the beautiful city of Lucca. Although I felt a bit anxious wearing shorts as I usually wear skirts or dresses in the winter months, I didn’t feel as overexposed as I usually do which for me represents lots of progress with my body image!

Also, here is a very good article by Glamour magazine online which has details of different types of shorts for different body shapes! https://www.glamour.com/gallery/summer-shorts-best-shorts-for-every-body-type/amp

  1. Lovely post! I personally always get my shorts from Hollister – I have extremely slim legs and my thighs are too small for most other shops, the shorts hang off them & look really silly, whereas Hollister seem to do them just right for my legs! You sure have to try out lots of shops & find what works for you – I always stick to what I know ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’˜

    1. Thank you lovely! Ahh I see. Yes definitely and you have to see what style suits you to because there is such a wide variety ๐Ÿ’›โœจ

  2. First of all, you look amazing!! You go girl!! I’m happy that you are getting closer and closer to be more confident with your body (as everybody should be!) And it happens to me but with my arms, I don’t like how they look, so in the summer I always end up with a farmers tan. But this year, like you said, I tried different styles and the off-the-shoulder shirts/blouses are working for me. I’m liking how they look on me without showing too much. So, I guess this is how I’ll get closer to be less ashamed and start showing arms. And you’re right, people are just minding their own business and they don’t really see what we’re insecure about, plus we even shouldn’t worry about what others think! I really liked this post!!๐Ÿ’•

  5. Yes I love this!! Body confidence is something I struggle with, afraid of looking too ‘lanky’ when I wear shorts. But, this year I’ve felt so much more comfortable – who cares what other people think? You look amazing girl! Loved this post x
